## Getting Started

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Is ChimeEdu free?">
    Yes — ChimeEdu offers a **Free plan** that costs nothing and requires no credit card to sign up. The Free plan gives you one classroom and up to five permanent activities and assessments, plus unlimited temporary (Quick) activities that expire after 8 hours. It's a fully functional starting point for any teacher who wants to try interactive learning in their classroom.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What's included in the Free plan?">
    The Free plan includes everything you need to get started:

    * **1 Classroom** — organise your students, activities, and study materials in one place
    * **5 permanent Activities & Assessments** — create quizzes, maps, flash cards, timelines, fill-in-the-blank exercises, and assessments that live on your dashboard indefinitely
    * **Unlimited Quick (temporary) Activities** — spin up a live quiz or activity on the fly; these expire automatically after 8 hours
    * **ChimeBot** — AI-powered support assistant available directly from your dashboard
    * **Knowledge Base access** — full access to guides, tutorials, and help articles

    No credit card is required. You can upgrade to Plus or Premium at any time when you're ready for more.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I try Plus or Premium features?">
    Plus and Premium plan upgrades are **coming soon**. When they launch, you'll be able to upgrade directly from your account settings. Plus ($10/month) adds Google Drive integration and expands your limits to 5 classrooms and 50 activities. Premium ($25/month) adds AI-assisted activity authoring and expands limits to 25 classrooms and 100 activities. Keep an eye on the [changelog](/help/changelog) for announcements.

## Classrooms

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How do I add students to my classroom?">
    The easiest way is to share your classroom's **join link** with your students. You'll find the join link on your classroom's dashboard — click the **Share** or **Invite** button to copy it. Students can click the link, create a student account (or sign in to their existing one), and they'll be enrolled immediately. You can also share a classroom join code if your students prefer to enter it manually.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I have multiple classrooms?">
    The number of classrooms you can create depends on your plan:

    | Plan    | Classrooms |
    | ------- | ---------- |
    | Free    | 1          |
    | Plus    | 5          |
    | Premium | 25         |

    If you need more classrooms than your current plan allows, you'll need to upgrade. Plus and Premium plans are coming soon.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can students see each other's work?">
    It depends on the activity type. For **live quizzes**, students see a shared leaderboard with scores but not individual answers. For **assessments**, submissions are private — only you as the teacher can see each student's responses. For **Experiences**, journal entry visibility is controlled by you; you can choose whether entries are visible to classmates or kept private. **Flash card** progress is personal and not shared.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Activities

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do students need an account to join a quiz?">
    No — students can join a live quiz as a **guest** using just the 6-character join code. They don't need to create an account or log in. Guest participants can play in real time and appear on the leaderboard during the session. However, their scores are **not saved** after the session ends. If you want scores and history to be retained, encourage students to sign in before joining.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How long does a Quick Activity last?">
    Quick Activities (temporary activities) are designed for one-off lessons and in-class sessions. They **automatically expire after 8 hours**. After that, the join code stops working and the activity is no longer accessible. If you need an activity to persist beyond a single class session, create a permanent activity from your dashboard instead — these stay on your account until you delete them.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I reuse activities across classrooms?">
    Yes. Permanent activities you've created can be linked to multiple classrooms. From your activity's settings, you can add or remove classroom associations at any time. This means you can build an activity once and use it across all your class groups without duplicating your work.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Assessments

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Are assessments auto-graded?">
    Partially. **Objective question types** — such as multiple choice, true/false, image select, and fill-in-the-blank — are graded automatically the moment a student submits. Students see their score for those questions right away. **Written response questions** (open-ended, short answer) require manual review; you'll need to read each response and assign a score yourself. You'll receive a notification when a student submits an assessment so you know when responses are waiting for review.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I set a time limit on an assessment?">
    Yes. When editing an assessment's settings, you can set an **overall time limit** for the entire assessment, or a **per-question time limit** that counts down independently for each question. You can also enable **extended time** for individual students who have an IEP or 504 plan — this flag bypasses the standard time limit and applies longer countdowns for that student specifically.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Account

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How do I change my email address?">
    To change your email address, go to **Account Settings** from the sidebar menu and look for the **Email** field under your profile details. Update the address and save your changes. You may be asked to confirm the new email address before the change takes effect — check your inbox for a confirmation link.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I reset my password?">
    If you've forgotten your password, go to [app.chimeedu.com/forgot-password](https://app.chimeedu.com/forgot-password). Enter the email address associated with your account and click **Send Reset Link**. You'll receive an email with a link to set a new password. The link is time-limited, so use it promptly. If you don't see the email, check your spam or junk folder. For more help, see the [Account & Login troubleshooting guide](/help/account-and-login).
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Google Drive

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Which plans include Google Drive integration?">
    Google Drive integration is included on the **Plus** and **Premium** plans. It is not available on the Free plan. With Google Drive connected, you can attach files and folders from your institution's Drive to classrooms, activities, assessments, study guides, and timelines — keeping everything current without manual uploads. Plus and Premium plans are coming soon.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does ChimeEdu sync file names from Google Drive?">
    Yes — file names are **automatically synchronised** from Google Drive. If you rename a file or folder in Drive, ChimeEdu will reflect the updated name the next time the content is loaded. You don't need to re-attach or manually update anything. This keeps your classroom resources accurate without any extra work on your part.
