# The Institution Setup Guide

> The nine-step guide every new institution's first admin walks through — and how to run it again later.

The first time an Institution Admin signs in to a new institution, the staff dashboard opens the **Setup Guide** at `/welcome`. It walks through everything an institution needs in about ten minutes. Every step can be skipped and finished later; the guide is required only in the sense that the dashboard waits for you to reach the end of it once.

Leaders and IT members are never sent to the guide — it is for the admin setting the institution up.

## The nine steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Welcome">What the staff site is for, the three roles in one sentence each, and the privacy promise: every performance figure is aggregated across at least 10 students.</Step>
  <Step title="Verify your institution">Shows whether the institution is already verified (by ChimeEdu, or by a domain you proved) and lets you add a domain proof. See [Verify your institution](/staff/verify-your-institution).</Step>
  <Step title="Identity and campuses">Your campuses, each with its staff email domain. Add a campus from the school registry or create a custom one. A staff email domain on a campus is what turns a teacher who picks that campus at sign-up into a *verified* link instead of a self-claimed one.</Step>
  <Step title="Your look">Upload a square mark and a wide logo — the same uploads as [Settings](/staff/settings-and-branding).</Step>
  <Step title="Your team">Invite Leaders, IT members or another admin.</Step>
  <Step title="Your teachers">Three ways teachers link to your institution: an invitation (verified on acceptance), a matching staff email domain (verified automatically), or a self-claimed link you confirm by sending an invitation to verify.</Step>
  <Step title="Network and sign-in">The allowlist your network team needs, with a copy button and a **Send to IT** mail action, plus a note on single sign-on.</Step>
  <Step title="Seed the library">Share the first activities and study guides, tagging each with a subject and grade band.</Step>
  <Step title="You're set">A summary of the setup checklist and where to find help.</Step>
</Steps>

**Next** saves your place, so you can close the tab and resume at the same step. **Skip for now** moves on without doing the step. **Finish setup** on the last step opens the dashboard.

## The Setup progress card

After the guide, the dashboard shows a **Setup progress** card until every item is done: institution verified · a campus with a staff email domain · logo uploaded · a second staff member · at least one linked teacher · no self-claimed teachers awaiting verification · a resource in the library. The items are computed from your real data every time, so they stay accurate when you do the work from the regular pages. Each undone item links to the page where it is finished.

Admins can **Dismiss** the card, or reopen the guide from it.

## Running the guide again

**Settings → Setup guide → Redo onboarding** returns you to `/welcome`. Nothing is deleted; each step simply shows what is already in place.

<Note>
  If your institution was set up before September 2026 it is already marked complete — you will only see the guide if you choose **Redo onboarding**.
