# Participate in Experiences and Field Trip Activities

> Check in at locations, write up to 20 journal entries, and submit observations during a ChimeEdu Experience or field trip activity.

Experiences are structured field trips or collaborative journeys. Your teacher sets up the locations and prompts in advance — you check in, write journal entries, and document what you observe along the way. Everything you capture becomes part of a living record of the experience that your teacher can build on back in the classroom.

## Participating in an Experience

    Find the Experience activity in your classroom dashboard and tap or click to open it. You'll see the travel map and the list of planned locations.

    The map shows the route your teacher has plotted and all the locations where you'll be stopping. Tap a location to preview what's planned there.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check in at each location">
    When you arrive at a location, use the **Check In** button on your device. This logs your arrival and unlocks the prompt for that stop.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read your teacher's prompt">
    Each location has a prompt written by your teacher. Read it carefully — it tells you what to observe, think about, or reflect on before you write.

  <Step title="Write your journal entry">
    Use the journal editor to write your response. Add text, attach photos from your device, and include any observations the prompt asks for.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit your entry">
    When your entry is complete, tap **Submit**. Your entry is sent to your teacher for review and added to the Experience log.

<Tip>
  Take photos as you go and attach them to your entries — they make your journal much richer and help you remember details when you're back in the classroom.

## Writing journal entries

The journal editor gives you the tools to create detailed, expressive entries:

    Format your writing with bold, italics, headings, and bullet points to organise your thoughts clearly.

    Attach photos directly from your device's camera roll or take a new one on the spot to capture what you're seeing.

    Your teacher's prompts guide exactly what to write at each stop, so you always know what's expected.

<Note>
  You can write up to **20 journal entries** per Experience — one for each location you visit or prompt you respond to.
</Note>

## After the experience

When the field trip is over, your journal entries don't disappear — they become part of the full Experience log.

* Your teacher may **use your entries as a starting point for class discussion**, asking you to share observations from the field.
* Entries may feed into a **follow-up assessment or Study Guide** your teacher creates based on what the class documented.
* You can revisit your own entries at any time through the Experience activity in your classroom feed.

## Privacy and visibility

Your teacher is in full control of who can see your journal entries:

    By default, entries may be held for your teacher to review before they become visible to the rest of the group. You'll be notified when your entry is approved.

    Your teacher decides whether entries are shared with your classmates, parents, or kept between you and your teacher only. You won't be surprised by who can see your work.

  If you're unsure whether your entries are visible to your classmates, check with your teacher — they control the sharing settings for each Experience.
