# How to Work on a ChimeEdu Diagram

> Open a diagram your teacher assigned, add and connect shapes on the canvas, and use the keyboard — with your work saving automatically.

Diagrams let you lay ideas out visually — a flow chart of a process, or a mind map of how topics connect. When your teacher assigns you a diagram, you get your own canvas to build on. Your work saves automatically as you go.

## Opening your diagram

Open the diagram from your dashboard or the link your teacher shares, and sign in with your classroom account. If your teacher issued a copy to you or your group, the canvas opens ready for you to edit. Anything your teacher drew appears as read-only reference — you can see it and connect to it, but only your own elements are yours to change.

## Adding and connecting elements

* **Add a shape** — open the **Elements** panel, pick a shape, then click the canvas where you want it.
* **Move or resize** — drag an element to move it, or drag its corner handles to resize (hold **Shift** to keep its proportions).
* **Connect two elements** — select an element, then drag from one of the small anchor points on its edge to another element. A connector snaps into place.
* **Label and style** — select any element to type a label and change its fill or text; select a connector to change its line and arrows.

## Getting around the canvas

Use the on-canvas buttons to **zoom in and out**, **fit** the whole diagram to the screen, or pan around. If snap-to-grid is on, elements line up neatly as you place and move them.

## Using the keyboard

You don't need a mouse. Select an element and use the **arrow keys** to nudge it (hold **Shift** for bigger steps), press **Delete** to remove the selected element or connector, and press **Esc** to deselect. The **List** button opens a text outline of every element and connection, which also works well with a screen reader.

## Saving

There's nothing to submit — your diagram saves automatically as you work, and the header shows when it was last saved. You can come back and keep building any time.
