If an activity isn’t loading or a quiz code isn’t working, this page covers the most common issues and how to resolve them.
Most issues are resolved by simply refreshing the page or trying a different browser. If a problem persists after both, the steps below will help narrow it down.

Quiz Join Code Not Working

If students are having trouble joining a live quiz with the join code, check the following:
  • Has the activity expired? Quick Activities (temporary activities) automatically expire 8 hours after they are created. Once expired, the join code no longer works. If this is the case, create a new Quick Activity for the session.
  • Is the code being entered correctly? Join codes are 6 characters long and case-insensitive — uppercase and lowercase letters are treated the same. Ask students to re-enter the code carefully and check for typos or swapped characters (e.g. 0 vs O, 1 vs l).
  • Has the teacher closed the quiz? If the teacher has ended or closed the quiz session, no new participants can join. Check with the teacher whether the session is still active.

Activity Won’t Load

If an activity page fails to load or appears stuck:
  1. Check your internet connection. Open another website to confirm you’re online. A lost connection is the most common cause of a blank or spinning activity screen.
  2. Refresh the page. Press F5 (Windows) or Cmd + R (Mac) to reload. Most loading glitches are cleared this way.
  3. Try a different browser. ChimeEdu supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If you’re using an older browser or one that isn’t on this list, switch to a supported browser.
  4. Clear your browser cache. Outdated cached data can prevent pages from loading correctly. In your browser settings, clear the cache and cookies, then reload the activity.

Map Pins Not Showing

If you open a map activity and the pins are missing or not visible:
  • Adjust your zoom level. Some pins may be clustered or hidden at certain zoom levels. Try zooming in and out to see if they appear.
  • Refresh the page. A brief network hiccup during loading can prevent pins from rendering. Refreshing usually fixes this.
  • Use the List View. If you’re navigating by keyboard or can’t interact with the map, click the List View toggle (available in map activities) to see all pins in an accessible, keyboard-operable list instead of the visual map.
Keyboard users can navigate all map pins using the List View alternative without needing to interact with the map directly. Look for the “List View” button near the top of the map activity.

Assessment Submission Error

If you receive an error when trying to submit an assessment:
  1. Check your internet connection first. A dropped connection at the moment of submission is the most common cause of submission errors.
  2. Try submitting again. In many cases, clicking Submit a second time after a brief wait will succeed.
  3. Do not close the tab yet. If the error persists, keep the tab open and contact support before navigating away. Your in-progress responses may be recoverable if the tab remains open.
If you experience a persistent submission error, do not close the browser tab until you’ve contacted support. Your work may still be retrievable from the open session.

Flash Card Progress Not Saving

If your flash card progress doesn’t appear to be saving between sessions:
  • Make sure you’re signed in. Flash card progress (including spaced-repetition intervals) is only saved to your account when you are signed in. If you’re studying as a guest, your progress is not stored and will be lost when you close the tab.
  • Check your account. Sign in at app.chimeedu.com before opening the flash card activity to ensure progress is being recorded.

Video Not Playing in a Study Guide

If an embedded video in a Study Guide won’t play:
  • Check that your browser allows autoplay. Some browser settings block videos from playing automatically. Look for an autoplay or permissions prompt in your browser’s address bar and allow it for app.chimeedu.com.
  • Try a different browser. Video playback behaviour differs across browsers. If a video won’t play in one browser, try Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
  • Check caption availability. Study Guide video blocks rely on YouTube embeds. If the source video on YouTube does not have a caption track, captions won’t be available on the embedded player. Contact your teacher if captions are important for your access needs.
If an issue persists after trying the steps above, report it using the form at app.chimeedu.com/report-issue. Include your browser name and version, your device type, and a brief description of what happened — this helps the team investigate and fix the issue faster.
