Getting Started

Yes — ChimeEdu offers a Free plan that costs nothing and requires no credit card to sign up. The Free plan gives you one classroom and up to five permanent activities and assessments, plus unlimited temporary (Quick) activities that expire after 8 hours. It’s a fully functional starting point for any teacher who wants to try interactive learning in their classroom.
The Free plan includes everything you need to get started:
  • 1 Classroom — organize your students, activities, and study materials in one place
  • 5 permanent Activities & Assessments — create quizzes, maps, flash cards, timelines, fill-in-the-blank exercises, and assessments that live on your dashboard indefinitely
  • Unlimited Quick (temporary) Activities — spin up a live quiz or activity on the fly; these expire automatically after 8 hours
  • Knowledge Base access — full access to guides, tutorials, and help articles
No credit card is required. You can upgrade to Plus or Premium at any time when you’re ready for more.
Plus and Premium become purchasable on August 17, 2026. Until then there’s no checkout or upgrade screen in the product. Plus (10/month) adds Google Drive integration, Per-Student and Group issuance, and the Graphs & Charts, Diagrams, and Experiences activity types, and raises your limits to 5 classrooms and 100 activities; Premium (25/month) adds Study Guides (including AI-assisted drafting) and lifts your activities limit to unlimited, with 25 classrooms. If you need a higher tier before that date, get in touch — tiers are set by the ChimeEdu team until checkout opens. From August 17 you can subscribe, switch, or cancel yourself; see Billing & Subscriptions.

Classrooms

The easiest way is to share your classroom’s join link with your students. You’ll find the join link on your classroom’s dashboard — click the Share or Invite button to copy it. Students can click the link, create a student account (or sign in to their existing one), and they’ll be enrolled immediately. You can also share a classroom join code if your students prefer to enter it manually.
The number of classrooms you can create depends on your plan:If you need more classrooms than your current plan allows, you’ll need to upgrade. Plus and Premium become purchasable on August 17, 2026; before then, get in touch.
It depends on the activity type. For live quizzes, the leaderboard lives on the host screen — students only see it if you project or share it, and nothing is kept once the session ends. For assessments, submissions are visible only to you; students don’t see a score or a results screen. Experiences are written entirely by you — students read them and don’t contribute entries. Flash card progress is personal to each signed-in student and isn’t shared. Maps, timelines, and Line/Scatter charts issued Per-Student keep each student’s work private from their classmates — see Per-Student & Groups; in Group Assignment mode a group’s members share one copy with each other.

Activities

No — students can join a live quiz as a guest using just the 6-character Quiz ID. They don’t need an account. Signing in makes no difference to what’s kept: ChimeEdu doesn’t store quiz results for anyone, guest or signed-in. Scoring lives in the host’s browser for the duration of the session and is gone once it ends, so treat a quiz as a live activity rather than an assessment. If you need a record, use an assessment instead.
Quick Activities (temporary activities) are designed for one-off lessons and in-class sessions. They automatically expire after 8 hours. After that, the join code stops working and the activity is no longer accessible. If you need an activity to persist beyond a single class session, create a permanent activity from your dashboard instead — these stay on your account until you delete them.
Not for activities. A quiz, map, timeline, flash card deck, or fill-in-the-blank activity belongs to one classroom at a time — you can reassign it to a different classroom, but it can’t appear in two at once. To run the same activity with several classes, duplicate it. To reuse one next term with a different class, archive it when the unit ends and restore it later. Assessments, study guides, and Experiences are different: those can be linked to multiple classrooms at the same time.
No — archive it instead. Archiving removes the activity from its classroom, hides it from students (old links show an “archived” notice), and stops it counting toward your plan’s activity limit, while keeping everything you built. When you teach the unit again, restore it into any classroom — student work from the previous run is cleared so it comes back fresh, and your own content is kept. Archived activities are held for 365 days. See Archive & Restore.

Assessments

Partially. Multiple choice, true/false, and image select are scored automatically on submission. Students see nothing until you explicitly send results — marking and releasing are separate steps, so auto-scoring never reveals anything on its own. Once you send them, the student gets a notification, a prompt on their dashboard, and an email, and can open their own results page showing per-question points, any overall letter grade you set, and your comments. Only they can open it; the page is tied to their account. Your marking autosaves as you enter it.Written questions (short and long answer) can’t currently be awarded points. They’re stored and you can read every response, but there’s no scoring control for them, and they still count toward the assessment’s maximum — so any assessment containing them will show a lower percentage than the student actually earned. Bear that in mind when weighting an assessment, and treat written responses as qualitative for now. You’ll get an on-platform notification when a student submits, if you have assessment-submission notifications switched on in your settings.
Yes. When editing an assessment’s settings, you can set an overall time limit for the entire assessment, or a per-question time limit that counts down independently for each question. You can also enable extended time for individual students who have an IEP or 504 plan — this flag bypasses the standard time limit and applies longer countdowns for that student specifically.

Account

To change your email address, go to Account Settings from the sidebar menu and look for the Email field under your profile details. Update the address and save your changes. You may be asked to confirm the new email address before the change takes effect — check your inbox for a confirmation link.
If you’ve forgotten your password, go to app.chimeedu.com/forgot-password. Enter the email address associated with your account and click Send Reset Link. You’ll receive an email with a link to set a new password. The link is time-limited, so use it promptly. If you don’t see the email, check your spam or junk folder. For more help, see the Account & Login troubleshooting guide.

Google Drive

Google Drive integration is included on the Plus and Premium plans, and isn’t available on Free. You connect your own Google account — any Google account works, and the connection is per-teacher rather than institution-wide. Once connected you can attach files and folders to classrooms, activities, assessments, study guides, and Experiences. ChimeEdu links to your files rather than copying them and can only access the specific files you pick through the Google picker — never the rest of your Drive — so edits you make in Drive show up when the file is opened. Plus and Premium become purchasable on August 17, 2026; until then, tiers are set by the ChimeEdu team on request.
No. The file name is captured when you attach the file and doesn’t change afterwards — if you rename it in Drive, ChimeEdu keeps showing the original name. The link still works, because ChimeEdu points at the file rather than copying it; only the label goes stale. To update the name shown, remove the attachment and re-attach it.
