Getting Started

It depends on what you’re doing. To join a classroom, access assessments, or save your flash card progress, you do need a student account. However, for live quizzes, you can join as a guest using just the 6-character join code — no account required. Keep in mind that guest quiz scores are not saved after the session ends, so if you want your results to be recorded, sign in before joining.
1

Get your classroom join link

Ask your teacher for your classroom’s join link or join code.
2

Visit the registration page

Go to app.chimeedu.com/register and fill in your name, email address, and a password (at least 10 characters).
3

Confirm your email

Check your inbox for a confirmation email and click the link inside to verify your address.
4

Join your classroom

Once signed in, use your teacher’s join link or code to enrol in your classroom.
Your teacher will share a classroom join link or a join code with you. Click the link (or go to your dashboard and enter the code when prompted) while signed in to your account. Once you join, the classroom and all of its activities, assessments, and study guides will appear on your dashboard automatically.

Quizzes

When your teacher starts a live quiz session, they’ll display a 6-character join code — usually on a projector or screen at the front of the class. Open any browser, go to app.chimeedu.com, and enter the code in the join field on the homepage or your dashboard. The code is case-insensitive, so you don’t need to worry about uppercase or lowercase letters. Once you enter the code, you’ll be taken straight into the quiz lobby.
Yes! You can join any live quiz as a guest — no account or sign-in needed. Just enter the 6-character join code in your browser. You’ll be asked to enter a display name so your teacher and classmates can see you on the leaderboard. Your score will show during the session, but it won’t be saved once the session ends.
Your quiz score is only saved if you are signed in to your ChimeEdu account when you join. If you participate as a guest, your score will appear on the live leaderboard during the session but will not be stored after the quiz ends. To make sure your results are recorded, always sign in before entering a join code.

Assessments

After you submit, a couple of things happen depending on the question types in the assessment:
  • Objective questions (multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, image select) are graded automatically. You’ll see your score for those questions right away.
  • Written response questions (open-ended or short-answer) are reviewed and graded manually by your teacher. You won’t see a score for those until your teacher has reviewed your response and assigned a mark.
Your teacher receives a notification as soon as you submit, so they know to check your responses.
No — once you click Submit, your assessment is final and cannot be edited. Before submitting, take a moment to review all of your answers. If you believe there was a technical issue that affected your submission, contact your teacher as soon as possible and they can look into it.
Written responses (open-ended questions) are reviewed and graded manually by your teacher — they aren’t scored automatically. Your teacher needs to read your response and assign a mark before you’ll see a score. If it’s been a while and you’re still waiting, check with your teacher directly.

Flash Cards

Open your classroom from your dashboard and find the flash card activity your teacher has assigned. Click it to go to the activity page, then choose a study mode:
  • Flip — classic front-and-back card flipping
  • Type Answer — type the answer before flipping
  • Multiple Choice — pick the correct answer from options
Work through the deck at your own pace. ChimeEdu uses a spaced-repetition algorithm to show you cards you find harder more frequently, helping you remember them over time.
Yes — your progress is saved automatically as long as you’re signed in to your account. The spaced-repetition schedule remembers which cards you’ve mastered and which ones need more practice, so each time you return, you’ll pick up right where you left off. If you’re using flash cards as a guest (without signing in), your progress will not be saved.

Experiences

An Experience is ChimeEdu’s field trip tool. Your teacher creates an Experience to document a real-world outing — mapping the route, listing locations to visit, and collecting student journal entries along the way. As a student, you can check in at locations and write journal entries to record what you observed or learned. Experiences can also be shared with parents and staff.
That’s up to your teacher. Your teacher controls the visibility settings for journal entries in each Experience. They can choose to keep entries private (visible only to you and the teacher) or to make them visible to your classmates. Check with your teacher if you’re unsure what the visibility setting is for a particular Experience.
