Depending on what your teacher sets up, you’ll use ChimeEdu for a range of activities:

Join Live Quizzes

Jump into real-time quiz sessions using a join code. Compete on the live leaderboard and see your results the moment you finish.

Complete Assessments

Take formal assessments set by your teacher. Several question types, often password-protected, and submitted once when you’re done.

Explore Maps and Timelines

Interact with pinned maps and sequenced timelines your teacher has built — great for history, geography, and any subject with a story.

Study with Flash Cards

Work through spaced-repetition flash card decks to lock in vocabulary and definitions at your own pace.

Read Experiences

Follow field trips and real-world journeys your teacher has documented — locations, journal posts, photos, and resources.

Read Study Guides

Access structured study guides your teacher has published — organized by topic and available any time from your classroom feed.

Announcements and work that opens later

Your teacher can post announcements to the class — “bring your book tomorrow”, “the test moved to Friday”. You get a notification for each one (and an email, unless you turn that off under Account Settings → Preferences), the latest one shows on your dashboard under the classroom, and the full list sits at the top of the classroom page. Some work is scheduled: it opens at a time your teacher chose. Until then it’s either not listed at all or shows as a locked card with the opening time. Once it opens, it appears like everything else — and for assessments, that’s when the “new assessment” notification arrives.

Do you need an account?

It depends on what you’re doing:
  • For most activities — yes. You need a ChimeEdu account to join a classroom, save your flash card progress, and submit assessments.
  • For live quizzes — you can join as a guest using just the Quiz ID. No account needed. Quiz results aren’t stored for anyone, signed in or not — the leaderboard lives only for the length of the session.
