Taking an assessment
1
Find the assessment in your classroom feed
Open your classroom dashboard and look for the assessment in your activity feed. Click or tap it to open.
2
Read the instructions
Before you begin, read any instructions your teacher has left. They may tell you how much time you have, whether you can go back and change answers, or what the assessment covers.
3
Answer each question
Work through the questions at your own pace (or within the timer if one is set). Your progress is tracked as you go — you can see which questions you’ve answered and which are still to do.
4
Keep an eye on the timer
If a timer is running, you’ll see the countdown on screen. Make sure to budget your time so you can reach every question before it runs out.
5
Review your answers
Before you submit, take a moment to review your answers. Check you haven’t accidentally skipped a question.
6
Submit
When you’re happy, click Submit. Your objective answers are graded instantly and your score appears right away.
Question types and how to answer them
Assessments can include several different question types. Here’s what to expect from each one:Multiple Choice
Read the question and select the one best answer from the options provided. Click or tap your choice to select it.
True / False
Read the statement and select either True or False. There’s no in-between — go with what you believe is correct.
Short Answer
Type a brief written answer in the text box. Your teacher will have indicated how much detail is expected.
Written Response
Write a longer, more detailed response. Take your time to structure your answer — your teacher will review these personally.
Timers
Not all assessments are timed, but when a timer is in place you’ll see a countdown clearly displayed on screen.- Overall timer — a single countdown for the whole assessment. Pace yourself across all questions.
- Per-question timer — each question has its own countdown. When it runs out, the assessment moves to the next question automatically.
- Extended time — if your teacher has enabled extended time for you, your timer will automatically reflect this. You don’t need to do anything to activate it.

Objective questions
Multiple choice and true/false answers are graded instantly when you submit. Your score appears on screen straight away — no waiting required.
Written responses
Written response questions are reviewed by your teacher personally. Your teacher will mark and release these scores separately, so check back later.
If you can’t finish in one sitting
Some assessments allow you to save your progress and return later. If you need to stop partway through:- Check whether a Save Progress option is available before you close the tab.
- If you’re unsure whether the assessment allows it, ask your teacher before closing — some assessments are set to submit automatically after a set period.
Not all assessments support saving progress — it depends on how your teacher has configured it. When in doubt, check with your teacher before stepping away.
