Live quizzes are real-time, competitive, and run by your teacher. You join with a 6-character code from any browser — no app download needed. The whole class plays together at the same time, with every answer scored the instant you submit it.

Joining a quiz

1

Get the join code from your teacher

Your teacher will display or share a 6-character join code — for example, GS7OB6. Keep this handy before you head to the site.
2

Go to app.chimeedu.com

Open app.chimeedu.com in any browser on your phone, tablet, or laptop. No app installation required.
3

Enter the join code

Type the 6-character code into the join box on the homepage and confirm. The characters are not case-sensitive, so don’t worry about capital letters.
4

Enter your name

Type the name you’d like to appear on the leaderboard. If you’re already signed in to ChimeEdu, your name will be filled in for you.
5

Wait in the lobby

You’ll land in the waiting lobby. You’ll see other players joining in real time. Your teacher controls when the quiz begins — sit tight until it starts!

During the quiz

Once your teacher starts the quiz, questions appear on screen one at a time. Here’s what to expect:
  • Read the question carefully before selecting your answer — you only get one chance per question.
  • Select your answer by clicking or tapping one of the answer options (A, B, C, or D).
  • See instant feedback — right after you answer, you’ll find out whether you got it right or wrong.
  • Check the leaderboard — after each round, the live scoreboard updates so you can see where you stand against your classmates.
Use your keyboard shortcuts A, B, C, or D to select answers faster — every second counts when there’s a timer running!
If your teacher has enabled extended time for you, your personal timer will automatically reflect the extra time. You don’t need to do anything differently.

Your results

When the last question is done, your final score appears on screen straight away. You can see how many questions you got right and where you finished on the leaderboard.

Signed-in students

Your score is automatically saved to your classroom record. Your teacher can review your performance in their dashboard.

Guest players

You can still play and see your score at the end — but since you’re not signed in, your results won’t be saved to a classroom record.

Joining as a guest vs. a signed-in student

Both guests and signed-in students can join and play a quiz with no difference in the gameplay experience. The key difference is what happens to your score afterward: If you have a ChimeEdu account, always sign in before joining — that way your hard work is always on record.
