Get the Quiz ID

Your teacher will show a 6-character Quiz ID on the board — something like GS7OB6. There may also be a QR code you can scan instead.

Go to the join page

Open app.chimeedu.com/join in any browser and enter the Quiz ID. Capital letters don’t matter — gs7ob6 works just as well.

Enter a display name

Type the name your teacher will recognize on the leaderboard. If you’d rather not use your own name, choose the option to join with a randomly generated nickname.

Wait for the start

You’ll see “Waiting for Quiz to Start” with the name you joined as. Your teacher starts the quiz when everyone’s in.
Careful with characters that look alike: 0 and O, 1 and I. If the code is rejected, try the other one.

Playing

When a question appears, tap your answer and submit. A few things worth knowing:
  • Answer options are numbered — 1, 2, 3, 4 — not lettered.
  • Some questions have more than one correct answer. If you see tick boxes, select every option you think is right before submitting.
  • You get one attempt per question. Once you submit, your answer is locked.
  • You won’t find out straight away. After submitting you’ll see “Answer submitted! Waiting for results…” — right and wrong are only revealed when your teacher reveals them for the whole class.

Seeing how you did

When your teacher reveals the results, your device shows whether you got that question right, along with the correct answer.
The leaderboard lives on your teacher’s screen, not yours — look up at the board to see the class standings. Your device shows your own result for each question, not the rankings.

If you get disconnected

If your connection drops mid-quiz, you’ll leave the game and your score won’t be waiting for you. You can rejoin with the same Quiz ID, but you’ll come back in with a clean slate, so tell your teacher what happened. If your teacher’s connection drops, don’t close anything — you’ll see a message saying the quiz is paused while they reconnect. It picks up automatically, usually within a few minutes.

Frequently asked

No. Live quizzes are open to anyone with the Quiz ID. You only need an account for classrooms, assessments, and saving flash card progress.
No. Live quiz scores aren’t stored anywhere — not for guests, and not if you’re signed in. They exist during the session and are gone once it ends. Signing in first doesn’t change that.
Three common reasons: the quiz hasn’t started or has already ended, the code was mistyped (check 0/O and 1/I), or it was a temporary quiz that has expired — those last 8 hours. Some quizzes also ask for a password, which your teacher will give you.
Yes — any modern mobile browser works. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge are all fine.
