A ChimeEdu quiz is a live, teacher-hosted game. You project the host screen, students join on their own devices with a 6-character code, and you drive the quiz question by question while the leaderboard updates on the projector.
Live quizzes are designed for the room, not the record book. No quiz results are saved — not for guests, and not for signed-in students. Scores exist only for the duration of the session and disappear when you close the host tab. If you need results you can review later, use an assessment instead.

Building a quiz

Create the activity

From your dashboard choose New Activity, then Quiz. Give it a title, and either pick a classroom from the dropdown or leave it as a temporary activity (temporary activities expire after 8 hours and don’t count toward your plan limit).

Add your questions

Quiz questions come in three types: multiple choice (one correct answer — players tap one card), true/false, and multi-select (several correct answers — players tick every card they think is right, then submit; it scores only when their set matches exactly). Multi-select is rolling out gradually; if it isn’t in your type list yet, it’s not switched on for your account.You can also bring questions in from a spreadsheet, a Kahoot export, pasted text or another quiz with Import questions — see Import Questions.

Set timing and scoring per question

Each question carries its own countdown (30 seconds by default) and its own point value (100 by default). Adjust them question by question — a quick recall question and a think-it-through question don’t deserve the same clock.

Hosting a session

Open the host view

From the quiz activity page, choose Host Quiz. The host screen shows your Quiz ID, a QR code, and a join link.

Get students in

Project the Quiz ID and have students go to app.chimeedu.com/join. Codes aren’t case-sensitive. Players appear on your screen as they connect — a room holds up to 300 players.

Start the quiz

Start Quiz becomes available once at least one player has joined and the quiz has at least one question.

Run each question

Students answer on their devices while the timer runs. When you choose Show Results, everyone sees whether they were right, the correct answer is revealed, and the leaderboard updates on your screen. (If the timer runs out first, results are revealed automatically.)

Move on

Next Question advances the quiz — the timer never advances it for you, so you can talk through an answer for as long as you like before continuing. On the last question the button becomes End Quiz, which shows the final podium.
Students only see the leaderboard if you project it. Player devices show each student their own result for the question just revealed — not the class standings.

What you can and can’t control mid-quiz

Want to run the same quiz with another class? After the quiz ends, Host Again resets the room and gives you a fresh session with the same questions.

When someone disconnects

If a student drops out, they’re removed from the room and their score is removed from the leaderboard. They can rejoin with the Quiz ID, but they come back in fresh — the score from before the disconnect is gone. If you drop out, the quiz doesn’t die. Students see a “waiting for your teacher to reconnect” message and the quiz pauses for three minutes. Rejoin within that window and you pick up where you left off, with your players and current question intact. After three minutes the session ends.
A session also ends automatically after four hours.

Accessibility and accommodations

Quizzes have an accommodation mode you can enable on the activity. It multiplies every question’s timer by three — for the whole room, not per student. Use it for classes where extra processing time is appropriate; for individual extended time, an assessment is the better tool.

Frequently asked

No. Anyone with the Quiz ID can play as a guest — they just enter a display name (or take a randomly generated nickname). Signing in changes nothing about live quiz play.
Yes. Set a password on the activity and players are prompted for it before they can join.
You can’t — the host screen during the session is the only view of scores, and nothing is stored. Note the results while they’re on screen if you need them, and use an assessment when you need a durable record.
Permanent quizzes count toward your activity limit. Temporary ones don’t.
