Use the Gradebook to See Every Grade in a Classroom

The Grades tab on a classroom shows every student and every assignment in one grid: each linked assessment and each activity with Graded Mode on. Cells show the score, a category subtotal sits after each group, and a weighted average ends every row. Two CSV exports take the whole thing to your district gradebook.

What appears in the grid

• Students — everyone enrolled in the classroom, one row each.
• Assessments — every assessment linked to the classroom that is published or closed. Drafts aren’t assignments yet, so they stay out.
• Graded activities — every activity in the classroom with Graded Mode on (maps, timelines, graphs, diagrams, flash cards, fill-in-the-blank).

Columns are ordered by due date. Live quizzes don’t keep per-student results, so they never appear.

Reading a cell

Clicking any cell opens the submission or the activity’s grading panel. Grades are entered there, never in the grid.

Averages

• Student average — the number at the end of each row, with a suggested letter under the common US scale. Unscored, missing-without-a-zero-rule, and not-assigned cells are left out, and “n of m” tells you how many assignments counted.
• Class average — the footer row, per column and overall.

Categories and weights

Click Categories to create groups such as Tests · 60 and Classwork · 40. Weights are relative, so they don’t need to add up to 100. Then use the small tag under each column header to put that assignment into a category. Once any category exists:

• the grid groups columns by category and adds a subtotal column after each group;
• the student average is the weighted mean of the category subtotals;
• a category with nothing graded yet is left out of the average rather than dragging it to zero;
• uncategorised columns are still shown but don’t count. Assign them, or delete all categories to go back to an equal-weight average.

You can have up to 12 categories per classroom.

Exporting

• Export grid — one row per student, one column per assignment with the percent, category subtotals, and the average. A second header row carries the points possible, and a column is marked [unreleased] while any graded result in it hasn’t been sent to students. Pastes straight into most district gradebooks.
• Export detailed — one row per student and assignment with the state, points earned and possible, percent, letter, whether results were released, and when it was submitted. Best for spreadsheets and records.

Both include every student in the roster, including those with nothing graded yet.
