About the limits

Saved activities (quizzes, maps, timelines, flash card decks, fill-in-the-blank activities, graphs & charts, and diagrams) and assessments count toward your plan’s limit. An activity counts once no matter how many students you issue it to. Study guides and Experiences do not count — they aren’t part of the calculation. Temporary activities — those created without an account, or set to expire after 8 hours — don’t count either, and are unlimited on every plan.
Basic activity types — Maps, Quizzes, Flash Cards, and Fill in the Blank — are on every plan, including Free. Graphs & Charts, Diagrams, and Experiences require Plus or Premium. Study Guides require Premium.These gates apply when you create something new. Anything you’ve already made keeps working if you move to a lower tier — you can still open, edit, and share it; only creating a new item of a higher-tier type is paused until you upgrade again. Temporary (Quick) activities stay available on every plan.
Plus and Premium accounts can connect a Google account to ChimeEdu. The connection is per-teacher and works with any Google account — it isn’t an institution-wide integration, and connecting yours doesn’t connect your colleagues’. Once linked, you can attach files and folders to classrooms, activities, assessments, study guides, and Experiences. ChimeEdu links to your files rather than copying them, and can only ever see the specific files and folders you pick in the Google picker — never the rest of your Drive.
By default an activity is one artifact the whole class works on together. Plus and Premium let you issue a map, timeline, or Line/Scatter chart per student — each one builds their own copy — or by group, where students are placed into groups (A–Z) that each co-edit one copy. One shared stays available on every plan, including Free. Full detail: Per-Student & Groups.If you move back to Free, activities you’ve already issued keep working and students keep their copies — only new issuance and new assignments are paused.
Premium accounts can use AI-assisted study guide drafting (powered by Claude): describe the guide you want, optionally upload source material, and the AI drafts sections into your study guide for you to edit. Study guides are the only place AI authoring is available — there is no AI question generation for quizzes or fill-in-the-blank activities. You always stay the author.

Which plan is right for you?

Start with Free. The Free tier is fully functional — you get one classroom and five saved activities, plus unlimited temporary activities for quick one-off sessions. There’s no time pressure and no credit card required. Explore the platform, build your first quiz or map, and worry about limits only when you actually reach them.
Not sure which plan you’ll need long-term? Start on Free. Changing tier doesn’t disturb anything you’ve built — your classrooms and activities carry over untouched. From August 17, 2026 you can upgrade, switch, or cancel yourself at any time — see Billing & Subscriptions.
